Sarah
- Hometown?
Born in Santa Monica, raised in Seattle area, but LA has always been “home.”
- Why do have love for pilates?
I have struggled with back pain since I was a young dancer in high school. Pilates was the cure. Ever since, it has been the one thing that I keep coming back to after injuries, as well as to keep me out of back pain.
- Favorite pilates move?
Short spine.
- What can we expect when we take your class?
I like to mix it up and incorporate variations of the traditional exercises and often say I teach a “choose-your-own-adventure” class. You can stick to the basics or change it up, depending on how you’re feeling that day.
- Describe your teaching style:
Athletic with a focus on form and proper movement mechanics.
- What is your guilty pleasure?
Chocolate.
- What is your favorite song to work out to?
Depends on my mood…I love John Mayor, Jason Mraz, or Kate Bush, Michael Jackson, or Tool.
- What interest you when you are not teaching?
I am a dancer and circus performer. I have my own circus dinner theater company: Madmann’s Playground.
- Best words of encouragement for your class:
“Keep challenging yourself, but make sure you are safe while doing so. It’s not worth trying something beyond your skill level if you don’t feel safe. It truly doesn’t matter what the person next to you is doing. It’s great to be inspired by the people next to you and strive to be able to do what they can, but ultimately, take the hour to focus on yourself and what your body needs in that moment.”
