This was my third time on a Pilates reformer and I’m finally starting to get the hang of the crazy looking machine. It was also the first time where I truly felt the burn, especially the next day.
Pre Sweat
Love for Pilates is located on the second level of a little strip mall very close to the popular Sunset and Vine shopping area. There is a ton of parking (some tandem…not sure how they monitor that). When I walked in, there was another class ending and I quickly filled out some paperwork and put on my socks. The room is huge, with 10 reformers, and beautiful, clean, wood floors. There is a chalkboard wall that features a weekly motivational quote.

This class was core focused and included a ton of great abs work mixed with some legs and arms. We were on the reformer the entire time, using the handles, foot straps, and sitting box to work various muscles. Tia, the instructor, was amazing! She was encouraging throughout and made sure to challenge us while correcting our form when necessary.
I’ve always wanted to love Pilates but haven’t found a class that made me feel like I got a good workout in. This one was different. We did plenty of forward crunches with holds and pulses and side crunches to target our obliques. Tia explained that it is important to also strengthen your back while working on your abs. We did bridges while lifting one leg at a time. We also worked our arms in a variety of exercises including pretending to “hug a tree” with the resistance straps in our hands. To end, we used the straps to give our bodies a great stretch.
Post Sweat
While there isn’t anything I can recommend in the immediate area, I drove a couple blocks and got coffee at Groundwork Coffee on Sunset and then hit up the Hollywood Farmers Market that goes from 8 am to 1 pm every single Sunday. As I’ve mentioned in my Cardio Barre post, this market has incredible $8 bouquets along with rows and rows of fresh fruit and veggies.
Tricks of the Trade
Don’t feel scared if it’s your first time on a reformer. This is the perfect environment to try it out!
